Information

What Is General Dentistry?

General dentistry is the branch of dental care focused on preventing, diagnosing, and treating common oral health issues to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Smiles Dental Care is a friendly, patient-focused dental practice dedicated to providing high quality oral health care for the whole family. Good dental care matters because it not only keeps your smile looking its best but also plays an important role in your overall health and well-being. Our experienced team takes a gentle approach with a commitment to making every visit as comfortable as possible.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush?

Bleeding gums can be a sign of gum inflammation, so regular brushing, flossing, and a professional cleaning can help improve your gum health.

Most people should visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and professional cleaning. Regular visits help detect problems early and keep your teeth and gums healthy. Your dentist may recommend more frequent visits depending on your oral health needs.

Children should visit the dentist by their first birthday or when their first tooth appears. Early dental visits help monitor healthy development and get children comfortable with dental care from a young age. Regular check-ups can also help prevent cavities and establish good oral hygiene habits early.

Why Patients Choose General Dentistry

Regular general dental care keeps small problems from becoming big ones — protecting your health, your smile, and your wallet.

Prevention First

Prevention is the best approach in dentistry because it helps detect and treat problems early before they become more serious or costly. Regular check-ups, cleanings, and good oral hygiene can protect your teeth and gums for the long term. Preventive care supports better oral health over time.

Calming Environment

Sedation dentistry can help patients feel more relaxed and comfortable during their dental treatment. It may be suitable for those with dental anxiety, sensitive teeth, or longer procedures. With safe and gentle sedation options, we aim to make your visit as calm and stress-free as possible.

Saving You Time and Money

Staying on top of your dental treatment can help prevent small issues from becoming more serious and expensive problems. Regular check-ups and early treatment often reduce the need for complex procedures later on. Maintaining your oral health now can save you both time and money in the future.

Care for the Whole Family

Regular dental care for the whole family helps build strong oral health habits that can be passed down through generations. It allows dentists to track family history and provide personalised prevention and early treatment when needed. This long-term approach supports healthier smiles and reduces dental problems over time for everyone in the family.

Common Questions

We're Here to Answer Your Questions

New to Smiles Dental Care, or just a little nervous? Here are some
questions our patients ask most often.

Do you offer payment plans?

We don’t offer in-house payment plans, but we do accept flexible third-party options including Zip, Afterpay, Humm, and MediPay. These services make it easier to manage the cost of your dental treatment with convenient repayment options.

Please bring your Health Care Card (if applicable) and any relevant medical or dental documents. This helps us better understand your health history and provide the most appropriate care.

Yes, we accept private health insurance and are preferred providers for a range of health funds. This can help you maximise your rebates and reduce out-of-pocket costs for your dental treatment.

A dental clean is generally not painful, though you may feel some mild sensitivity, especially if it has been a while since your last visit. Most patients find the procedure comfortable and leave with a fresher, cleaner feeling. If you do have sensitivity, let your dentist know so they can make you more comfortable.

We take intraoral X-rays and CBCT scans to get a detailed view of your teeth, roots, and jaw structure. These imaging techniques use very low levels of radiation and are considered safe when used appropriately. They are an important tool in accurately diagnosing and planning dental treatment.
